There is a large amount of evidence that proves that workplace wellness programs initiated by companies that are aimed at preventing lifestyle diseases amongst their employees are highly effective. In our own experience as a Wellness service provider to some of India’s top companies we have seen improvements in health, behavioural, pshychological and economic.
Anthropometric Outcomes
In a recent analysis of workplace intervention programmes for weight loss that we conducted in various companies we found that we were able to effect a reasonable amount of weight loss amongst the employees with the help of frequent Zumba and Yoga sessions. The positive effects of weight loss on other physiological risk factors such as hypertension and diabetes has been found to be positive.
Behavioral Outcomes
The three most important factors that cause lifestyle diseases amongst employees are physical inactivity, lack of diet control & substance abuse (mainly cigarettes & gutka). When we conduct yoga workshops and other wellness camps, awareness about the harmful effects of inactivity and ingesting fatty foods and substance abuse increases and consequently there is an improvement of all these behavioural risk factors.
At a recent corporate employee get together for Exxon Mobil’s Mumbai office, Wellintra Fitness conducted a wellness camp for their senior employees who came along with their spouses and children at the Taj Lands End, Mumbai. A variety of fun-fitness sessions were conducted by our trainers Sanchita & Bhumika for the participants spread over a period of two hours followed by a Diet & Nutrition talk by a Nutritionist. Have a look at some of the pictures of the memorable session below.
