Hema is a devoted and highly passionate Yoga instructor who trains our clients in the Powai, Chandivali and Andheri West areas of Mumbai. As a classically trained yoga instructor, Hema leads by example, integrating ayurvedic principles, posture analysis, and adapting classical Yoga practices for general learners as well as those with specific conditions. All her yoga teaching modules address issues of cultural appropriation, inclusiveness, accessibility, and gender, and equip participants with trauma-informed language and methodologies. In fact in each of her classes whether it is personal training or group sessions, Hema places heavy importance on safety, both in terms of alignment and adjustments. She also places a lot of emphasis on teaching methodology and gives clients hands-on experience. Hema believes that while we aim to find balance in certain postures on the mat, there is a kind of balance that goes beyond your asana practice. According to Hema, emotional and mental balance helps you stay positive, sensitive, and capable of forming a deep connection to yourself and allows you to stay present in the moment and feel more centered. Hema is certified by the Asan Yoga Institute having completed 200 Hours of their Yoga Teacher Training Course in Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga.

What is Hema's style of teaching?

Hema teaches Yoga as a conversation, beginning by giving essential instructions. She then observes the client closely and gives the next alignment instruction according to their response. If their alignment is clear and their energy is settled, she gradually ramps up the sequence. She slows down at the end with longer stays in passive, feel-good postures such as supine hip openers and reclined twists. Hema’s expertise lies in Ashtanga and Vinyasa and she integrates both into her session. The Vinyasa part helps to optimize your practice with fluid Asana transitions and a synchronized breathing technique. With Ashtanga and Vinyasa, she creates new sequences for each session and sometimes includes asana variation. Thus, the client gets to have fun practicing different sequences and it does not get monotonous. Hema firmly believes that Yoga can immensely benefit people at any stage of life and desires to be of service to them in their Yoga journey.
